Friday 02/27/04 The secret origin of the Muppets' "Mah na mah na." Do dooo, de doo do! BTW, there's a Portland band called Menomena whose name is pronounced the name way. Their album I Am the Fun Blame Monster is pretty cool. via BrainLog Re: Mah na mah na There are 19 messages in this thread, displayed in the order they were posted. brooke 9/25/2004 11:57:49 PM Pacific where can u download mah na mah na? im crazy about it and i keep downloading stupid other ones Laura 11/2/2004 6:45:19 PM Pacific I found the entire version on Kazaa Muppet 1/26/2005 4:05:39 PM Pacific http://movies.quadratic.net/Muppet_Show_Manamanah.mpeg. Gary 2/17/2005 6:03:53 PM Pacific I remember seeing a skit with this song way back in the early '70s on "The Red Skelton Show", and that was years before the Muppets ever did it. Instead of muppets, they had little people dressed up as aliens jumping in and out of "craters" on the stage. I was only a little kid, but I thought it was hilarious! Ma-nah-ma-nah searcher aka sam 3/29/2005 12:49:48 AM Pacific OK so my mate is getting married he wanted me to compile a cd i have noooooooooo idea why he wanted this song, i got WinMX what is the damned spelling of the manahmanah/ma nah ma nah/menomino/menomenablooody song n e ways anyone know were i can download it? MacDaddy dude (t.sax) 4/4/2005 4:31:43 PM Pacific yeah, first of all, go on limewire, cuz WinMX sux. second its spelled "Ma Na Ma Nah". Make sure u get the right version, there are a lot of bad versions out there that suck Shea 4/4/2005 8:45:16 PM Pacific Sorry about another "Mah na Mah na" comment... But I HAD to share what I found, after some research,on the "Mah na Mah na" ditty Dr.Pepper is using lately (the later version by the Muppets): Curiously enough, Swedish artist by the name of Piero Umiliani wrote and performed the original "Mah na mah na" in 1968 on the LP "Svezia,Inferno E Paradiso" (found this was re-released on CD in 1998, see Amazon). Much of Piero's work was the soft somewhat vapid loungy music typical of late 60's cocktail bars and supermarket muzak. But it brings back pleasant memories of my youth, all the same, whilst the Muppets version was just not the same. I also remember seeing a skit or two on TV, around 68-69, using the Piero Umiliani tune, and I have to guess it was on the Red Skelton show, or perhaps "Laugh In"... Later, I'd wager "Benny Hill" used a version of it, as well (would have to see one of those episodes again before being positive, though)... Piero Umiliani's "Mah na Mah na" reached #55 by September 6, 1969 on Billboard charts... Looks like we were all 'right', after all, in one way or another... :-) BUT,I did search for and locate (using Limewire, searched for Piero Umiliani -- "Mah na Mah na" came up easily!) the original late 60's ditty most of us 40-ish and overs will remember from OUR youth as the original "Mah na Mah na" song (WOO HOO!)...LOL So...THANK YOU, Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, for indirectly leading my search, finally, in the right direction! :-) I plan on driving everyone within earshot INSANE with this cherished little tune (sorry Muppets -- it's got to be the Real Thing for me...and, er, yep, I'm a Coke drinker) :-) Shea Mah na mah na -- dee dee be dee be Mah na mah na dee deebe deet Mah na mah na -- dee dee be dee be be dee be be dee be be dee be etc. Amanda 4/28/2005 12:31:15 PM Pacific I just downloaded the muppets clip and it made my day.
