In the 1890s, a passenger trolley line was constructed between Brighton to Rottingdean (England) -- through the English channel. At high tide, the tracks were under fifteen feet of water, but the passengers remained dry, as the trolley was supported by legs more than 23 feet long! Hence its nickname, "Daddy-long-legs."

It always amazes me all the cool things that were built during the Victorian era. These things could not be done nowadays even with all the technology we have.
