Recent links of note: Seattle nice is not a bug but a feature (via Mike) ... Turing train combines two early hackish pursuits by creating a working computer in the form of a model railway (via Boing Boing) ... Escher sketch in Java ... DIY DNA extraction ... Neal Stephenson interviewed at Reason ... Fantasy Planes ... Peasant's Quest from the creators of Trogdor ... My Addicted Son from the New York Times ... Uncle Shelby's ABZ from Shel Silverstein, as it appeared in Playboy in 1961 ... (all the preceding via MetaFilter) ... Ebert's Glossary of Movie Terms (via MemeMachineGo) ... NameVoyager shows you the popularity of names through the decades, graphically (via Haughey) ... Nuclear Now! says Wired, which means it has about as much future as push (via Danelope) ... CGI in FORTRAN: ouch, just ouch (via MoreLikeThis) ... Fleeting documents the abstract art created by painting over graffiti (via Kottke) ... The Cuddly Menace (via Waxy links) ... New Ben Folds in April!

I'm planning to re-launch my blog March 1. The site will feature my latest photo front-and-center, along with regular links to interesting sites in a second column, plus links to books I've recently read and music I've recently heard and the occasional longer piece. I'm currently working on the layout for the new site, but I'd like a name a little catchier than "JerryKindall.com." Something like this or this. I've come up with a few ideas, but am not really happy with any of them, so I'm open to suggestions. (Note I'd like to get the .com domain of whatever name is suggested, so names where it's not available probably won't get serious consideration.)

How about "Cinnamon Bakelite?"

Mmm...cinnamon....

That's in the right vein for sure.

This whole thing really makes me wish I hadn't let titaniumspork.com lapse.

I believe JerryKindall.com is best.

It's you. You're the platform for the content. It's about what you find interesting and what you think.

smiling ham
chicken knocker
rubber huckleberry
chunk hucker

Oh, and platinumspork is available.

So basically, I give the impression of being cinnamon, smiling, chicken, rubber, chunky, and furry. Hmm.

I came up with the following:

Lightsavor
Retinal Threat
Famous Pancakes

I'm reduced to looking at Tangerine Dream track names for inspiration.

"Recent links of note: Seattle nice is not a bug but a feature (via Mike)" ... "Nuclear Now! says Wired, which means it has about as much future as push (via Danelope)"

I cite these not so much because it's Dan and Me, but because I'm sufficiently familiar with both the link and the via cite to appreciate the delicacy and depth of what these rewrites are. I shit you not, that is some sweet linkwriting, and if you grab that as your voice in JK.com 2.0, you'll be getting that linkylove we all crave.

Too bad yer relaunch deadline beats the Mefi meet, or we could kibitz. Remember: Shorter Is Better.

That kind of verbiage is pretty much exactly what you can expect in the links column that'll be to the right of the photos in the new design. The actual format will be more like the newer one, with the "via" being the link to the person who I nicked the link from. Anyhow, there's nothing preventing kibitzing in advance of the MeFiMeet, and if not, I may not be quite ready to go by then, and I can always make changes. I was planning on finishing up the new design this weekend, but I decided to go out of town instead. Need a break.

I'm a bit concerned about Pascal's dilemma, though. Lacking the time to write the pithy, short links.

thanks, and I think that 'famouspancakes.com' is a winner!
