By the way, a couple of weeks ago I was laid off. I received a very generous severance and found some short-term contract work, plus I have some savings and can draw unemployment. So I'm okay financially for quite a while. However, if you have a lead for a good technical writing position in the Seattle area, please let me know. (I've already applied at Google, of course, which has an opening in their Kirkland office.)

Wow, isn't this the third layoff in the past 3-4 years? That sucks. I was laid off from my tech support job last December. I took all the unemployment (six months worth) and then surprisingly, was rehired by my old company at the end of September.

Got laid off in 2001, 2002, and now 2006. :)

Occupational hazard of being a tech writer for small companies, I suppose. The tech writer is usually one of the first people to get cut, because the job is perceived as easily contracted out.
